The UNSW Surgical Society is a student-driven society at the University of New South Wales. The society was established in 2009 and today has more than 800 student members.

Basic/Advanced Suturing Workshop, April 12th
The basic workshop caters to all levels of medical students who have never sutured before or would like to brush up on the basics. Topics covered include an introduction to suturing instruments and their safe use and basic stitches including simple interrupted, horizontal mattress and vertical mattress.
The advanced workshop caters to those with more experience and confidence suturing; Topics covered include hand ties, selecting appropriate sutures for each situation (e.g. dissolvable versus non-dissolvable), practice in suturing complex lacerations, and slightly more advanced stitches such as the running subcuticular suture.
Two prominent Sydney surgeons will be talking about their journey into surgical consultancy, and their advice for prospective students who want to maximise their chances of getting onto the surgical training program.
