Orthopaedic Surgery Conference
UNSW Surgical Society proudly presents our annual surgical conference, with this year focusing on Orthopaedic Surgery

Interested in surgery? Passionate about orthopaedics? Keen to gain rare first-hand surgical training from some of Australia’s best surgeons?
Start the day with keynote presentations and panel discussions led by some of Australia’s top orthopaedic surgeons. Then, take part in four hands-on surgical workshops guided by experienced registrars and supported by Stryker, a leader in medical technology.

Suturing Workshop #2
Hi all! UNSW Surgsoc will be back with our second Basic & Advanced Suturing workshop of the year on May 21st. Whether you’re a fresher keen get some hands-on experience or a veteran looking for a quick refresher, then this is the event for you! We’re introducing our first ever Intermediate workshop stream - for those that have picked up the very basics but aren’t ready to move up to
The Basic Workshop will cover:
1) Sutures and surgical instruments
2) Simple cutaneous sutures e.g. simple interrupted, simple continuous
The Intermediate Workshop will cover:
1) Horiztonal and vertical mattress sutures
2) Hand-ties
The Advanced Workshop will cover:
1) Sutures and surgical instruments
2) More advanced stitches e.g. running subcuticular, deep dermal, advancement flaps
3) Hand-ties
This is a sell-out event with limited spots offered on a first come first served basis.

Suturing Workshop #1
Never seen a suture needle before or ready to level up your suturing skills? Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn and refine essential surgical techniques!
Date: Monday, 24th March
Time: 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Location: Wallace Wurth Physiology Labs
Basic Workshop (First time or beginner)
Learn about sutures & surgical instruments
Master basic stitches: Simple Interrupted, Simple Continuous
Practice hand-ties
Advanced Workshop (For those mastering basic skills)
Horizontal Mattress
Vertical Mattress
Sub-cuticular Sutures
Suturing will be performed on pork trotters (alternatives available upon request for cultural/religious reasons).

Important: You must be a UNSW Medical Student and can only sign up for one workshop level.

Whether you’re a fresher keen get some hands-on experience or a veteran looking for a quick refresher, then this is the event for you! All students are welcome regardless of previous experience!
The Basic Workshop will cover:
1) Sutures and surgical instruments
2) Simple cutaneous sutures e.g. simple interrupted, simple continuous, mattresses
3) Hand-ties
The Advanced Workshop will cover:
1) Sutures and surgical instruments
2) More advanced stitches e.g. running subcuticular, deep dermal, advancement flaps
3) Hand-ties
Everyone who attends will also receive a skills logbook containing basic information on suturing and knot-tying that you can refer to.
This is a sell-out event with limited spots offered on a first come first served basis.
Please note, you MUST be a UNSW Medical Student and can only register for one workshop (either basic or advanced). If you are successful in securing a spot, you will be contacted via email with payment options. Both basic and advanced workshops are $15 to cover the cost of materials. Your place in a workshop will not be confirmed until full payment is received within the due period, otherwise your spot will be offered to the next person on the wait list.
If you have registered and paid you will not be eligible for a refund under any circumstances. Please contact us if you have any queries!
